Back to Chacachacare
Saturday April 22
The morning was spent recuperating from the post-film-club-friday-night-lime. The SFC screened 'Soy Cuba', a beautifully filmed propaganda piece from 1964 and a few of us headed out afterwards for wine and cheese.
In the afternoon François, Michel and I headed off for Aripo for the hash - it would be my third time in Aripo, a small village which clings to the valley hillside. the hash was great, and i spent a good time in front with another hasher and even took the time to swim in the natural pools we encountered. i guess that's what happens when you make the right choices. (don't know what hashing is?..)
Sunday April 23
Another early morning as I drove out to Chaguaramas to meet up with François for our second excursion to the island of Chacachacare. On our way to the island we navigated our zodiac into a cliffside cave, backing out when the surging waves became a bit too strong for comfort.
We landed at the same beach as the previous time and met a family spending the weekend on the island. We were introduced to their pet parrot and had a good time chatting. We began our explorations and stumbled across a cemetary, morgue, mechanical room, stores room, another chapel and various other derelict buildings.
We then made our way up to the lighthouse where we soaked in the great 360° view and after a swim we coaxed the small boat through the choppy waters and back to the marina. We met up with our spanish friend domingo who gave us the grand tour of the beautiful sailboat that he has been working on as second mate - shortly after he left to cross the atlantic.
